Code of Conduct

The American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing values the participation of each attendee and desires for everyone to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

All attendees are expected to show respect for and courtesy to other attendees, speakers, guests, and staff. All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of different backgrounds and opinions. All attendees for any events associated with the Annual Conference are solely responsible for their words and actions.

AAACN will not tolerate harassment, unacceptable behavior or disruption of the Annual Conference of any kind, including, but not limited to, harassment based on ethnicity, religion, disability, physical appearance, gender, or sexual orientation. This policy applies to all participants and attendees of all association events. AAACN, at its sole discretion, will determine whether behavior is harassing or unacceptable. By way of example, harassing or unacceptable behavior may include, without limitation, offensive gestures, posters, banners or social media posts, offensive or disruptive verbal or written comments, deliberate intimidation, and disruption of talks, speeches or presentations, or other events. Other forms of unacceptable or harassing behavior include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Intimidating, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, indecent, or demeaning speech or actions
  • Discussion of opposing viewpoints through personal attacks directed toward speakers, staff, or other attendees
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following others
  • Threatening or interrupting speakers, presenters, or others
  • Direct or indirect abuse or derision in chats or on social media
  • Substance abuse that impacts on the right of other attendees to participate in or to focus on the business being discussed
  • Possession of weapons of any kind, notwithstanding local laws that may permit them
  • The display of offensive posters or banners, as determined by the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing
  • Protests in any form, or unauthorized speeches or attempts to record the business meeting, speakers or presenters that disrupt any part of the conference or associated events

Attendees who are asked to cease harassing or other unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately. Failure to comply may serve as grounds for removal from the Annual Conference, in whole or in part and may result in referral to local authorities.

When notified of individuals engaging in harassing or unacceptable behavior, the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing, at its sole discretion, may take any action it deems appropriate, ranging from a warning to expulsion from current and/or future Association meetings, assemblies, and events. Decisions to ban individuals from future events are at the sole discretion of AAACN.

If you are being harassed, observe or overhear someone else being harassed or is being subjected to offensive or unacceptable behavior, or if you have any other concerns regarding the behavior or comments of other individuals, please contact onsite security personnel or the meeting organizer by email at aaacn@aaacn.org.
