Carrie Reale is a board-certified nurse informaticist and human factors researcher with the Center for Research and Innovation in Systems Safety (CRISS) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Ms. Reale earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Belmont University in 2008 and her master's degree in nursing informatics from Vanderbilt University in 2014. Her clinical background is primarily in the neonatal intensive care unit, where she held both direct patient care and clinical nurse educator roles. Ms. Reale also has a bachelor's degree in business and marketing from San Jose State University in 1995 and spent more than a decade in the commercial sector prior to becoming a nurse, including cofounding a successful electronic funds transfer company in 2000. Since she joined CRISS in 2014, Ms. Reale has focused on understanding user needs and improving the safety, quality, and overall user experience for healthcare tools and technology through the application of user-centered design methods. She has helped clients from academic research, clinical operations, government agencies, and industry optimize a broad range of health technologies, including electronic health records, mobile health apps, medical devices, and artificial intelligence and decision support tools.
