Description

Building on the success of last year’s interactive workshop, “Advancing Project Management & Lean Six Sigma Using AI,” this Part 2 half-day workshop takes participants beyond foundational principles into the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) for project execution, monitoring, and continuous improvement in health care. As AI technologies mature and become embedded in clinical, operational, and leadership workflows, healthcare professionals—particularly nurse informaticians—must be equipped with hands-on strategies to integrate AI tools into quality improvement efforts. This four-hour, highly interactive workshop guides participants through the operationalization of AI within the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) DMAIC framework, with a special focus on the measure, improve, and control phases. Participants will gain skills in using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft CoPilot, Gemini, Claude, Qlik, and Excel to streamline data, visualization, automate control planning, and support real-time decision-making. Attendees will explore how to build dashboards that reflect key performance indicators (KPIs), generate AI-informed control charts, and create simplified standard operating procedures (SOPs) that support sustainable project outcomes. Through simulation activities and a “build-a-tool” challenge, learners will apply AI tools to develop mini-prototypes that enhance efficiency and accuracy in clinical and administrative project settings. The session also includes a focused discussion on AI governance, risk mitigation, and ethics. Participants will be introduced to frameworks for safe and transparent AI adoption in health care, including strategies to embed ethical guardrails and “human-in-the-loop” oversight within AI-enhanced systems. Real-world ethical scenarios will be analyzed collaboratively to reinforce responsible innovation.
