Jennifer Cera, DNP, APRN-NP, WHNP-BC, FAUNA is a Clinical Associate Professor, Co-Director of the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She practices as a Women’s Health Nurse practitioner and specializes in Urogynecology at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. She earned her MSN in Women’s Health and Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2004 and 2017, respectively from UNMC College of Nursing. Her experience in urogynecology spans 30 years. In her roles, she actively engages in practice, research, and healthcare innovation. She developed a 3D-Virtual Reality Pelvic model that provides tailored educational content for both students and patients and this model has been incorporated into interprofessional healthcare curriculum, utilized by graduate nursing, medical urology and obstetrical/gynecology students, and physical and occupational therapy students. The model has guided new pilot research investigating whether 2-dimensional versus 3-dimensional innovative teaching technologies promote patient comprehension and application of anatomical content. Currently, she is Co-PI of a PCORI grant and PI of a grant evaluating pelvic organ prolapse and emphysema, awarded by the Nebraska Center for Women’s Health and Research. She has been an invited speaker for the on genitourinary syndrome of menopause at the regional and national levels and is actively engaged in SUNA, AUGS, the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), and the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS). She has served on SUNA’s Editorial Board since 2018 and was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Urologic Nurses and Associates in 2024. She has been an invited expert consultant for various evidence-based guideline white papers, professional panels, and clinical advisory boards. Her passion lies within empowering women with knowledge and to lead full and active lives.
