Dr. Bethany Hall-Long, Delaware's 75th Governor (January 2025), and 26th Lieutenant Governor (2017 to 2025) is a nationally recognized research scientist and policy leader known for advancing cross-sector collaboration and cutting-edge innovation to strengthen communities and improve lives. She was DE’s second woman governor and the first nurse governor in the 50 States of America. She served in the DE House of Representatives (2002-2008) and DE Senate (2008-2017) where she sponsored over 1,000 bills, driving innovative policy models that are being replicated nationwide in economics, health care, education, and justice, focusing on women and vulnerable populations. She led transformative reforms, including the creation of the nation’s first overdose system of care, a behavioral health consortium, the first creative economy study, and America’s first AI-powered smart food SNAP app. Dr. Hall-Long is also the past chair of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association (NLGA) and successfully "rebooted" the Democratic Lieutenant Governor’s Association. Dr. Hall-Long is currently a professor emerita at the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences, Biden Institute/Urban Affairs, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Her unique blend of academic research and public service makes her a leading voice in creating a stronger, healthier nation and globe. Committed to training the next generation, Bethany is national co-chair (Gov Reynold’s) of Million Women Mentors in STEM. Bethany earned a BSN degree from Thomas Jefferson University (1986), an MSN degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (1988), and a PhD degree in health policy and nursing administration from George Mason University (1993).
