Teresa Bell-Stephens is a registered nurse coordinator for the neurosurgery clinic at Stanford Health Care in Palo Alto, CA. Teresa has over 40 years of nursing experience, with 35 years of experience exclusively in neurosurgery ambulatory care. She retired from her management role and full-time practice in September 2023 but still works each week as a PRN nurse coordinator in the neurosurgery clinic. Teresa and her neurosurgeon collaborator, Dr. Gary Steinberg, were pioneers in implementing nurse-led visits for neurosurgery post-operative visits in the 1990s. Through their sustained collaboration on enabling Teresa to practice to the fullest extent of her license, the broader neuroscience clinics at Stanford Health Care also adopted nurse-led visits. Teresa was the 2025 recipient of the AAACN Excellence in Clinical Ambulatory Care Nursing Practice Award.
