Lucy Sikanyisiwe Damasane Marshall is a Zimbabwean born, South African descendant, and naturalized American citizen with a passion for health and education. She is an outstanding product of Mpilo Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and Parirenyatwa School of Nursing Harare, Zimbabwe. Lucy speaks English, Zulu, Ndebele, Xhosa, and Shona and has a particular edge in understanding cultures of Southern Africa and the West. She leads the Damasane Consulting LLC in executing clinical professional development, legal nurse consulting, business consulting, and the positive response program. Lucy is a certified instructor for American Heart Association in basic life support and is an advocate for women’s health in the prevention of heart disease and stroke and the Red Dress Program. She is the founder and chief executive officer of The Golden Light Organization (GLO), a non-profit organization involved locally and internationally in increasing awareness, encouraging testing, treatment, and community involvement in HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases like hypertension and stroke prevention, supporting women and children with feminine products, and supporting families impacted by urban poverty in Bulawayo Zimbabwe with food. Lucy introduced “The Positive Response” in Southern Africa, a program that strategically prepares houses of faith and organizations to mobilize the community to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. GLO has operated the Impact International Program since 1997, which is an international cultural exchange in the areas of health, education, arts, and technology (HEAT). This consultant fosters collaborations between health practitioners and faith communities to develop and implement mobilization strategies to respond positively to HIV/AIDS and other preventable diseases in the United States and parts of Southern Africa. She has extensive experience in intensive and coronary care, telemetry, general medical, surgical, and orthopedic nursing, imaging nursing, and midwifery nursing. Lucy was awarded “the best practical nurse” at Mpilo School of Nursing in 1979. For more than four decades, Lucy has been a valued clinical nurse, imaging nurse, educator, preceptor, and consultant in at least six of the 50 United States of America and internationally where her international experience is applied within diverse communities. This professional holds a doctor of nursing practice degree, diploma in intensive care, and a diploma in midwifery nursing and infant resuscitation and has delivered more than 100 babies as a midwife. Lucy is also a certified legal nurse consultant and obtained her master of business administration degree and master of public administration degree and evaluation for equivalent of bachelor of science in nursing from Seattle City University in Seattle, Washington. Lucy is an experienced registered nurse and clinical professional development consultant. She has over 40 years of experience in healthcare as an acute care nurse, imaging nurse, nurse midwife, nurse manager, supervisor, preceptor, and educator. During these years she has served as a clinical educator for experienced healthcare professionals, doctors, and student nurses, preceptor for student nurses and experienced nurses, consulting nurse in a call center , clinical and elbow support consultant in the area of computerized provider entry and electronic medical record documentation at different hospitals nationally and internationally. Lucy is a credentialed Epic trainer for ambulatory care and has served as support for Epic design, roll out, and implementation of Epic for both ambulatory and inpatient care. She served as the orientation educator and urgent care educator at Kaiser Permanente for all new hires in the mid-Atlantic States (Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia). She also served as trainer for research candidates at the University of Washington in Seattle on a research project for “prevention of premature births among immigrants.” This professional has served as chair for quality for the cardiac intermediate care unit, resource nurse for the stroke center, regulator for optic compliance, and chair for clinical operations for emergency services department observation III at WakeMed Health Hospitals and is currently the Imaging nursing representative for quality committee and commitment to caring in UNCH. This professional has served as Magnet support at Rex Hospital and Magnet champion at UNC Chapel Hill. As a community effective health professional, Lucy has served as health coordinator and trainer for the African American Reach and Teach (AARTH) organization where she developed, implemented, and managed culturally relevant prevention, early intervention, and care training strategies to assist the African-American communities to positively respond to the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in King County Washington. Lucy was the founder of the New Covenant Christian Center Health Ministry in 1997, where she planned and coordinated community and culturally relevant programs for preserving and enhancing health, and encouraging treatment. In Wake County, North Carolina, she conducts primary prevention of stroke in the Highland Creek Preserves Community. She served as one of the founding board members for “the conciliation project,” a non-profit organization engaged in developing artistic and theatrical presentations to encourage dialogue in diverse forms of racism. Her gift of reaching, teaching, and leading in preventive care has earned her respect as a leader in the healthcare profession and in faith-based communities in the United States and abroad. In 2000, Lucy conducted a “break the silence” HIV/AIDS Seminar in Zimbabwe in partnership with the Matabeleland HIV/AIDS Council and has since continued such seminars with Impact International. Impact International focuses on the international exchange in health, education, arts, and technology. Through the avenues of Damasane Consulting, GLO and Impact International, GLO has conducted book drives for medical and nursing textbooks which were donated to nursing schools in Zimbabwe for the past 22 years. Lucy is a great asset in building and managing teams, hiring for retention, developing and executing mission and vision of projects and organizations, initiating and managing change, coaching and educating, formerly and in-formerly, and lastly, collaborating and working with people. Lucy has a passion for people, and is an excellent educator and leader who delivers with compassion and understanding. Lucy is in a doctor of nursing practice degree program with a focus on leadership and education and a projected graduation of 2022. Lucy has dedicated her health career to being a compassionate caregiver and reaches out to empower communities locally and internationally.
