Dawn Vonderheide is the director of ambulatory clinical practice at Kaiser Permanente, Southern Caifornia, Orange County. She has been in an ambulatory care leadership position for over 30 years with operational and support functions. She is responsible for leading and implementing clinical practice scope for the ambulatory care nursing and non-nursing clinical staff for over 4,000 employees at 23 medical office buildings. She has responsibilities for the implementation of the nursing practice excellence, national nursing model, enhancement of practice partnership, and patient safety initiatives. Dawn sponsors and develops standing orders and standardized procedures to support health care practice. She serves as a reviewer for the Kaiser Permanente Southern California and National award programs and serves as a member of the Kaiser Permanente regional nursing research committee.Dawn was awarded the Kaiser Permanente National Exellence in Nursing Leadership in 2021. Dawn obtained her AA degree in nursing from Cerritos College in Norwalk California, and her BSN and MSN degrees from California State University Los Angeles. She earned her DNP degree from Capella University. She founded the Southern Califorinia Nursing Honor Guard in 2021, which provides a tribute for nurses who have passed away. Dawn has served as an AAACN conference planning committee member for the 2023, 2033, and 2024 conference years. She was a co-editor for the AAACN Scope and Standards 10th Edition. Currently, she is serving as a co-editor for the AAACN Core Curriculum 5th edition. She has been a presenter for the AAACN ambulatory care nursing certification review course since 2023.
