Dr. Fay Gao is an associate clinical professor at the University of Hawai‘i Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine and a practicing neurologist with the Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder Center at the Queen’s Neuroscience Institute. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, tremor, dystonia, Huntington’s disease, and tics. She has a special interest in using deep brain stimulation to treat Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, as well as botulinum toxin therapy for treating various neurological disorders. Her approach to neurology—as both physician and educator—is to disseminate the latest, state-of-the-art advances and technologies in the field, and apply it to each patient in the way that makes most sense for their individual, functional needs. She believes that care must be personalized and focused on maximizing the patient’s quality of life. She is inspired by the resilience of those who live and thrive with neurodegenerative disease.
