This session provides a brief background on the science of pharmacogenomics and discusses how clinical application of pharmacogenomics gives providers another tool in the treatment toolbox to ensure quality care for patients. Discussion will include the importance of pharmacogenomics based on background and statistics from various clinical settings, basic nomenclature and biology related to pharmacogenomics, relevant practice guidelines related to practice guidelines, and barriers and considerations for implementation.
