Osteoporosis is a prevalent problem among older adults. This session provides an update on standard of care for diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up to optimize older adult bone health. Discussion will include defining osteoporosis and osteopenia, nonmodifiable and modifiable risk factors for osteoporosis, indications for initiating pharmacological treatment of osteoporosis, the difference between antiresorptive and anabolic/hormonal treatment, and monitoring parameters for pharmacologic agents for osteoporosis.
