Older adults may face unique challenges when considering diabetes and weight loss drugs. This session will address issues related to the use of GLP-1 drugs in older adults for management of weight loss associated with diabetes. Discussion will include identification of appropriate candidates for GLP-1 medications, the mechanism of action and target organs for GLP-1 medications, appropriate counseling to all patients interested in this drug class, benefits of GLP-1 medications, and side effects and adverse reactions to be aware about regarding GLP-1 medications.
