Dr. Sanchez-Reilly is a professor, board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, and hospice/palliative medicine. Dr. Sanchez-Reilly is the interim division chief of geriatrics, gerontology, and palliative medicine and the associate hospice and palliative medicine fellowship program director at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Sanchez-Reilly has earned a national reputation in palliative care education and end-of-life communication research. Dr. Sanchez-Reilly actively participates in national societies such as the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) and the American Geriatrics Society (AGS). Dr. Sanchez-Reilly is the director of the NIA-funded UT Medical Students Teaching in Aging Research Program (MSTAR), influencing several medical students to pursue a geriatrics and palliative medicine-related career. Dr. Sanchez-Reilly has mentored many learners to become faculty members and has been influential in expanding palliative care clinical services locally. Moreover, Dr. Sanchez-Reilly leads the palliative care programs at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) as the associate chief of staff (ACOS) for Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC).
