Dr. Lorinda A. Coombs is a tenure-track assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing and a geriatric oncology clinician-scientist focused on improving cancer care for older adults. She earned her PhD degree in health policy and nursing at the University of California, San Francisco, and completed an NIH T32–supported postdoctoral fellowship in interdisciplinary cancer, caregiving, and end-of-life research at the University of Utah. Dr. Coombs leads a geriatric oncology assessment clinic that integrates comprehensive geriatric assessment into oncology care to support individualized, values-aligned treatment planning for older adults with cancer. A board-certified family and oncology nurse practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience, she remains active in practice and mentors PhD and DNP students, medical trainees, residents, and other graduate scholars. Prior to her doctoral training, she completed a post-master’s family nurse practitioner program at UCLA and served as the first hematology nurse practitioner at Kaiser Permanente.
