This workshop will provide an in-depth focus on two key areas of education for gerontological advanced practiced nurses. Part 1 will share how faculty who have a special focus on gerontology can work to ensure that sufficient gerontology content and experiences are available to graduate students. Presentation will include ways to incorporate gerontology content in core and population specific courses within the nurse practitioner curriculum. Use of in-class and asynchronous assignments and simulations focused on older patients and their unique needs increases the opportunities for students to meet the competencies expected for who will be caring for aging patients. Part 2 will enhance APRN understanding of primary palliative care competencies and guide them in creating individualized development plans based on competency self-assessment. A review of evidence-based resources will assist participants in the creation of a developmental plan. Participants will review graduate-level primary palliative care competencies and complete a self-assessment to identify areas for growth. Using these insights, they will develop targeted individualized plans to achieve competency. Evidence-based resources will be provided to support learning, and case-based activities will offer opportunities to apply skills in realistic clinical scenarios.
