Dr. Jennifer Shepherd is director of nursing practice, work environment, and Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation® at the American Nurses Association. She leads national initiatives advancing nursing practice excellence, workforce well-being, healthy work environments, and the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into nursing. In her role, Dr. Shepherd oversees the Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation® movement and collaborates with healthcare, technology, policy, and professional partners to strengthen the nursing workforce and improve health outcomes. A nurse executive, educator, and innovation leader, Dr. Shepherd is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a fellow of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She has extensive experience in nursing leadership, professional development, workforce transformation, and healthcare innovation. Her work focuses on creating evidence-based strategies that support nurse well-being, safety, resilience, and professional renewal while preparing the profession for the future of health care.
