Nursing informatics plays a crucial role in evaluating cybersecurity risks to bridge the gap between technical and clinical. This role requires deep subject matter expertise in areas such as understanding cyber vulnerabilities, identifying safety risks associated with exploited vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with regulations, supporting incident response plans and prevention, maintaining data integrity and availability, and compiling ongoing training and awareness for bedside clinicians. Nurses and other bedside clinicians may be the first to identify cybersecurity pain points and issues due to their in-depth knowledge of the facility and workflows. Establishing and maintaining the feedback loop between nursing and cybersecurity is essential for prevention, identification, and response. This session will provide an overview of each step in the cybersecurity assessment process including nursing informatics role and what they are accountable for. The goal is to provide any nursing informaticist with meaningful information to establish or enhance their skillsets when participating in a cybersecurity assessment of medical devices.
